Mothering Sunday falls on the fourth Sunday in Lent, and was originally the day when people would visit their “Mother Church.” Historically, domestic servants were given time off to return to their home parish, and girls in service would visit their mothers with gifts of flowers. Today, the day has grown to celebrate all those who care for us, as well as our Mother Church.
