Mothering Sunday

Mothering Sunday is the 4th Sunday in Lent and was originally the day when people would visit their  'Mother Church', the church in which they were baptised or their local parish church.

Domestic servants were given the day off so they could return to their Mother Church. Later girls in service would visit their mothers, taking gifts of flowers. Now we celebrate all those who care for us as well as Mother Church.

In 2024, Mothering Sunday falls on the 10th March.
